Dear Friends of 1MISSION,
I’m sure you’re busy with last minute preparations for Christmas, but I hope you have a minute to read this message.
This is a busy time for our families in Mexico as they prepare for Christmas, but also for our busy construction season that begins December 27. There are 14 families that have been working hard to prepare their property in anticipation of the construction of their house in January.
If you haven’t heard, the Lukeville border crossing has been closed, and there is still no news about when it will open. As a result, we just had 500 trip participants who had no choice but to cancel their January trips. Obviously, this will be a big disappointment for those families that have worked so hard to prepare for their new house.
This will create a significant challenge for 1MISSION as well, since we rely on these trip fees to fund our operations. When the border closed due to COVID we were near the end of our trip season, so we were able to weather that storm. This is different. Because of the cancellations, we are facing an estimated shortfall of $112,000 for January alone.
We’re praying and are trusting God to provide.
If you are considering a year end gift, and haven’t already done so, we would be grateful for your support.
On behalf of our team, Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year,
PS: Even though the migrant crisis is having a negative effect on our ability to fulfill our mission, it’s also a stark reminder of why we do what we do. Our mission is to provide people an opportunity to have safe, secure shelter and a strong community where they can thrive. That so many people in the world don’t have that, is truly heartbreaking, and should lead to compassion, not fear or anger.
