Meet Edric, who does the numbers

Originally from Ciudad Obregón in Sonora, Mexico, our finance director Edric Gallegos brings some awesome experience and an entrepreneurial spirit to the team. In this Q&A, Edric tells us about his favorite works of art, what he watched on TV as a kid (hint: it’s nerdy), and what motivates him every day in his work.

How did you first get connected to 1MISSION?
I first got connected through mutual acquaintances. After I moved to Phoenix, an acquaintance knew 1MISSION was looking for some help organizing finances, and he connected me with Jason, the founder. And as 1MISSION grew, I started working with 1MISSION fulltime as the finance director.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Knowing that people’s living conditions improve through my team’s work. Even though my job is often to create reports and do more office work, I know that our team is empowering people daily, working in the field, impacting people’s lives.

You graduated with a degree in industrial engineering and a minor in finance. Then you went on to get an MBA. What made you decide to study what you did?
I’ve always had a passion for business and particularly for finances (I remember watching stock tickers on TV as a kid), so I decided to further my education in both fields by attending business school.

Even though my job is often to create reports and do more office work, I know that our team is empowering people daily.

So, before joining 1MISSION you worked for the government in Mexico. And you started your own business?! Tell us about those experiences.
After getting my degree from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, I served as the Finance Director for the State of Sonora. It was a great opportunity where we had an incredible impact on the citizens. Afterward, I went on to get my MBA, and I always had an entrepreneurial spirit in my blood, which brought me to start a spa in Mexico.

What is your favorite work of art? And if you could visit anywhere, where would you go, and what would you do?
I don’t have one favorite work of art, but I do have favorite artists, like Rufino Tamayo, Rafael Coronel, Vicente Rojo, and Fernando Botero. My passion for art stems from my mother’s love for art and my sister is an art dealer as well. Even though I do finance everyday, art helps balance me and keep me grounded. And if I could visit anywhere, I would go to Iceland and see the Northern Lights.
