Meet our 2018 summer UNTERNS!

Earlier this year, we put out a call for unterns.

While some internships revolve around taking coffee orders and doing mind-numbing tasks in a windowless room, we wanted to find energetic candidates who’d be ready to make a real contribution to our work of putting families in homes.

Josh, Kaesie, and Nicole rose to the challenge – and it’s a blast having them work with us this summer. So, without further ado, meet our 2018 summer unterns!

Josh Freid
Josh is a sophomore at Arizona State University, majoring in Computer Information Systems. This summer he’s working on our Partnerships team, helping to acquire and steward donors.

Why did you want to be an untern with 1MISSION?
I went to Nicaragua last summer and fell in love with the process of how 1MISSION does things. I wanted to learn skills in the nonprofit world and help out 1MISSION as much as I can, along with getting the opportunity to be mentored by such awesome people.

What have you been working on this summer?
I have been working on a special event called 1NIGHT 1MISSION and gaining partners for the House to House campaign.

What’s your dream job?
I don’t know yet. I am willing to take any opportunity that comes my way in the future.

What one thing most people don’t know about you?
I am terrified of the dark.

Kaesie Carroll
Kaesie will start attending Scottsdale Community College in the fall after taking a year off after high school to consider next steps. She hopes to study Communications with a minor in Christian Studies. This summer, she is helping with administration and event planning.

Why did you want to be an untern with 1MISSION?
I want to be part of something that helps people change their vision on life. Being able to provide someone with a home changes the way they see their life, giving hope, empowerment, and so much more. Giving them a community and showing these families love is the main reason I wanted to be part of 1MISSION!

What have you been working on this summer?
I’ve been helping to plan our Gala that we do every other year, as well as the big Bikes Fight Poverty event where people fundraise and ride their bikes down to Mexico from Arizona. I’ve also been helping to revamp 1MISSION’s online store, including new pics of our gear.

What’s your dream job?
My dream job is to be a mom someday.

What one thing most people don’t know about you?
One fun fact is that I know sign language. Also, my family calls me Justin because that was supposed to be my original name.

Nicole Rowe
Nicole is a senior at Grand Canyon University and will graduate in December. She is majoring in Communications/Marketing with a minor in Christian Studies. This summer she is working on the Media & Communications team, helping with social media strategy and design.

Why did you want to be an untern with 1MISSION?
I grew up in a Christian household but no one in my family really had a relationship with God. When I turned 18, I held a birthday campaign and God really worked in my family. 1MISSION inspired my family to want to go on a mission trip and serve the Lord. We were all baptized together that year and I thank 1MISSION for the work they did in my family’s heart.

What have you been working on this summer?
I have been working on social media strategy, designing graphics for events, and helping keep the organization on brand through the unterns projects.

What’s your dream job?
I want to work in the marketing field and start a remote agency for influencers or people in this field that cannot get positions because they do not have a degree yet. I struggled gaining experience in college because no one wanted to hire someone without a degree, but how can college students with skills make money when they can really only intern in this field until they graduate? This would be a great opportunity to break open those barriers and show that even people of a younger age can be greater assets to your company at times.

What one thing most people don’t know about you?
I watch a lot of Netflix, Hulu, and live television shows. I have gotten so good at watching these shows and movies that I started a podcast dedicated to discussing post episode recaps and answering questions.
